Review: Silky aka Mr. Bendy, My Very Favorite Cock

My very first sex toy review is up Eden Fantasys (whose name makes me want to get out my red English Major pen and correctly pluralize the noun), and what other toy to start with than my beloved packing cock.Apparently, though Babeland calls it Mr. Bendy, it is actually known by the manufacturer as Silky, and comes in blue and purple as well as pink (which is the only color I’ve ever seen at Babeland).

I really do love this cock – and, while I am absolutely man enough for pink, I am quite excited about my new blue one.

Actually, I feel kind of selfish about this cock. I don’t want to tell you where to buy it or how awesome it is, because it’s mine. But, in the spirit of spreading the love, I am resolving to get over that possessiveness …

From the review:

I have spent years – since I first came out and began having sex with women, since I first started honing my butch identity and wanting a cock to be part of my sex life – searching for a cock I could not only pack with, but also play with.

And? Here’s the secret: this is that cock.I have a special place in my heart for Babeland – clearly, since I’m mentioning it in my plug for my Eden review – particularly because they are built on queer politics, community, and culture. Their staff members are primarily queer and absolutely queer friendly, they know all about gender and gender expression, and I never feel out of place in that store. It was the first non-skeevy sex toy store I’d ever been in, and for that reason, I just love it. Support the dykes, yay.

But despite my love for Babeland, sometimes their product selection falls a bit short. By which I mean, sometimes they just don’t have what I need.

And that’s a place where Eden is fantastic. They have a really great selection of toys – not only cocks & harnesses, but also slappy and stingy toys, lube, condoms, books, DVDs, all sorts of things. Their queer content is not perfect, but it’s there, and they are working on building it further, which I think is fantastic.

Buy this cock on Eden Fantasys now!

When I went to the Babeland location in LA, I was absolutely amazed. I had only been to skeezy sex stores previously and it was amazing. They had a wall of harnesses — all different colors and styles and tons of different packing cocks. Then I had a conversation about fisting with one of the clerks. I really wish there was one closer to me.

yeah, that's precisely how it was for me the first time I went to the one in Seattle – I'd only ever been to gross ones. but Babeland is so fun, feminist, sex- women- and queer-positive. so conscious! their stock has really changed in the last few years, but I still really support their philosophies and visions. lucky for you, you can order online :)

See, I was actually really disappointed with my visit to Babeland in Seattle. It was all hyped up for me, and honestly, other than their book selection, I wasn't impressed. They didn't have $pread, nor did any of the employees know what it was, they didn't know hardly anything about their harnesses, they didn't know what a Wartenburg wheel was (I had to go grab it and they were like "oh, the pinwheel thingy!"), they only had like one of each type of item on display…I was just…meh. Given the sex toy store I was used to in Denver (where I grew up), that had EVERY vibrator on display with batteries in it, so that you could see what you were buying (and was huge!), and had only a slightly smaller book collection, I was just mostly disappointed with it, since everyone talked about how great and sex-positive they were and how much stuff they had. I was kind of like meh. I will say they're one of the only places I've been able to find a Wartenburg wheel though :) I mean "Pinwheel Thingy" I also got a two decent trans books there.I mean, they must have been great 10 or whatever years ago, but the fact that a "normal" store in CO had just as good of a selection for almost everything? I haven't been to Good Vibes in NYC yet, because I'm afraid my image of them will become just as tarnished…

I haven't been to Babeland, but this is exactly how I felt about Good Vibrations in San Francisco. I'd been to a couple of supposedly women friendly sex-toy stores before, but they were either completely frou-frou, with henna kits and edible glitter but not a harness in sight, or still full of sketchy second-rate stuff. Good Vibes was amazing: little old ladies calmly exploring the BDSM toys, samples of everything with batteries in them, an amazingly competent woman who talked me through the good and bad points of everything I wanted to know about, and all sorts of sex-positive, women-positive, queer-positive info everywhere. Unfortunately, they always seem to be out of the particular things I want when I visit, so I might go and visit the Babeland store the next time I get a chance.

essin' em: you've said that about Babeland to me before, and I gotta say, you really must give it another chance before judging it so harshly. I do agree with you that they don't have the greatest, widest range of products, but their staff is incredibly knowledgable. I don't know who you ran into at the Seattle Babeland store, but I have known many people who worked at Babeland, both in Seattle and here in NYC and in LA, and they are some of the most sex-positive, queer, conscious, intelligent (over-educated!) people I've ever met. They definitely carry $pread, too. You must've caught 'em on a bad night, somehow. I wouldn't want to override your experience of it, at all, I just want to urge you to give Babeland another chance before drawing such strong conclusions.
