Eye Candy: Rachel Maddow on Jay Leno

Posted on October 13, 2008 in eye candy | 29 Comments

Oh I just can’t resist. I don’t usually do celebrity eye candy, that’s a whole different ballgame really, but I’ve got such a bromance crush going on with Rachel Maddow. She’s been making big headlines lately – she’s got her own show on Air America, The Rachel Maddow Show, (Monday-Friday at 6 p.m. Eastern on Air America Radio, also available streaming from the Air America website), but only recently she got her own MSNBC show (Monday-Friday at 9 p.m. Eastern on MSNBC-TV, and is re-broadcast on MSNBC at 11 p.m. and on Air America Radio the next day at 7 p.m.).

Everybody’s been talking about how out and queer and visibly a bit butch she is. I can never seem to remember to turn on my TV, but I keep watching clips of her online and she is just brilliant.

She took some time to stop and chat with Jay Leno just a few nights ago, October 9th. Now that MSNBC isn’t dressing her up in lipstick and girl suits, she’s back in her own clothes and looks – in a word – hot. Those glasses? Nerdyhot. That shirt? A little bit rockabilly, a little bit cowboy, a little too big, pretty darn butch.

I agree with everyone above. When I saw her on MSNBC- I was like- hey, what is that handsome butch doing with the makeup on?? I mean, she still looked hot- I love genders bent any which way-but I totally heart her in her natural state, with the glasses and whatnot.

PS- I can so imagine the discussion with her makeup artist- "Alright, I can do eyeliner. But no lipstick! maybe some gloss, but that's where I draw the line!"

complete bromance material, I agree with ya'll. If she'd been around when I was a baby butch, I probably would have wanted to grow up to be her… hell, I feel that way now.

She's just plain smokin' and a 1000 times more hot than when they try putting make-up on her.

those glasses are just too hot, the shoes are adorable, and her big brain makes me do embarrassing things like bite my bottom lip and raise my eyebrow at the computer/television screen. rachel maddow should be cloned and made my future husband.

I personally think it’s hilarious that MSNBC tries to un-butchify her on her show.

I feel ya on the bromance, though. She is totally awesome.

Oh, my Rachel Maddow crush has lasted for a looooong time, longer than most. I think she is her own unique category of celebrity. Gawd, how crowded would the room be if all of us crushing on her gathered together?

Rachel Maddow has a brain the size of a planet. I've been crushed out on her for a long time. And she is quite butchy in real life! I just love intelligent butches! And I feel like I understand politics after she explains it.

I have had the biggest crush on her for years. I just got cable and I watch MSNBC all of the time. My roommate thinks my crush is pretty funny because it doesn't matter how tired I am, I will watch her just for the sake of watching her.

MMMM smart, hot, hilarious (seriously, she is fucking funny) & a glasses wearer? Hell yeah.

I don't know which I love more, your post on Maddow, or the Sugarbutch Commentariat's swooning. I'm with d: "gosh I love this website."

I wince when I think of what it must be like for her to be all doo'ed up by the MSNBC makeup artists. But then, one supposes, it's the price of the ticket. Great to see her au naturel.

Clever AND smokin' – my sapiosexual-self is all a-swoon. Also, I had no idea she was from CV, East Bay pride, baby!

Big love for Sugarbutch/Sexsmith for posting this!

    Oh. My.

Well, thanks for that. God only knows how someone that smart and that hot escaped me for so long. I’m cured now. Off to go watch her show (with a drool guard for my keyboard).

It's pretty awesome that she actually identifies as a butch dyke in interviews. I mean, how often do celesbians actually describe themselves as butch instead of practically running away from the label? It rocks. And I totally relate on the bromance front. Nice coinage there too, heh.

The story of how she met her partner (I love the yard boy part!):

    http://www.eric-goldscheider.com/id15.html

…Four months later, Maddow walked into her life after Mikula told mutual friends she needed a "yard boy" to help her manage the demands of a creaky old structure that had stood empty for almost a year as well as the 2 acres of vegetation that were threatening to take over.

"Zing went the heartstrings," according to both of them, when Maddow, 31, a Rhodes Scholar and gay activist, arrived for the job. Maddow had moved to the area to write her doctoral dissertation comparing AIDS policies in the California and British prison systems, but also needed to earn some money. A year-and-a-half later, on Halloween, she moved in.
