Oh Hello, City of Roses

It’s a perfect temperature here in Portland, which means, yay, that button-down and tie I brought for my workshops tonight and tomorrow are going to work out just fine.

If you’re in the area, come by one of the workshops!

And of course tomorrow I’ll be visiting Powell’s. And seeking out amazing vegetarian restaurants or cafes … got any recommendations?

  1. Welcome! There are great places along Alberta St..

My favorite restaurant ever is this Lebanese place called Habibi, on SW Morrison between 10th and 11th (near Pioneer Square). Their vegetarian mezza platter is beyond amazing.

If you like Thai food, on SW Broadway is Baan Thai, relatively close to PSU. It looks small and creepy, but its amazing. I'm not a huge tofu fan, but Baan Thai will make one of their dishes with just the veggies and without tofu or meat for you if you ask :)

The Bombay Chaat House on SW 12th is delicious and SUPER cheap Indian food from a food cart. Dalo's Kitchen on N Vancouver has delicious and cheap Ethiopian food. Oh, and Portobello is somewhat pricier vegan Italian on SE Division, but I think they only do dinner.

    Have fun!

Tin Shed, Cafe Vita and Bye & Bye and a whole host of others on Alberta…there are dozens in all parts of the city, really.

If you're into craft brewing and in Portland over the weekend, the Oregon Brewers Festival runs the 22nd through the 25th (www.oregonbrewfest.com/) on the waterfront, and has about 80 kinds of craft beer from all over the country.

Prasad (near Powell's), Blossoming Lotus, and Portobello are delicious vegan restaurants. There are also a host of vegetarian food carts downtown (The Whole Bowl is especially good!)

In my experience, the best breakfast diner in Pdox is the Paradox Cafe, in SE – Belmont & just west of 35th. (There's also a fun nickel arcade next door!) The Paradox has great vegan sausage, classic diner coffee, and a funky atmosphere. Enjoy.

So damned sorry I missed you in PDX! We had the teenager staying with us and couldn't bring her with… damn! Next time.
