April’s Pin-Up Giveaway

It’s April again, and you already know that means it’s my birthday, and Sugarbutch’s blogiversary. But did you also know that this year, I am the April pin-up in the 2010 Sex Blogger Calendar?

Me, my photo in this year’s calendar with Audacia Ray (photographed by Amanda Morgan), and Kristen at the Sex Blogger Calendar Party, November 2009. Photo by Nick McGlynn

I wrote about the process behind the photo and what Dacia and I had in mind when we started planning our own “vision of sexual freedom.” I still don’t have a good digital version of the photo by itself, but this shot of me holding the calendar will have to do.

Tess and Diva have graciously let me give away FIVE of these lovely calendars to celebrate my pin-up month. Want one? Leave a comment with a link to your favorite pin-up photo, or just one that you really like, or your favorite pin-up photo model or photographer (Marilyn Monroe? Dita von Teese? Hilda? Gil Elvgren? Les Toil?). Don’t worry if you don’t have one—it’s not very hard to Google pin-up photos and waste some time looking through for one you like.

Since you’ll show me yours, here are some of mine: photos tagged “pinup” from my mrsexsmith.tumblr.com log. Not my all-time favorites, but some of the notable ones from the last year or so of tumblr. Maybe I’ll spend some time adding some of my favorites!

There are not very many calendars left, but I bet if you run over to the Waking Vixen store you can still order one.

Here’s why you want one: you’ll be told of your favorite sex blogger’s birthdays and blogiversaries, you’ll get special discount codes from the fabulous sex toy companies who sponsored the calendar, you’ll get to stare at some gorgeous sex blogger’s pretty faces all year round, and, of course, you’ll be supporting Sex Work Awareness with your money.

Five winners of the New York City Sex Blogger 2010 Calendar will be chosen at random Friday morning, April 9th.

My favorite pinup photographer is local to my city – Toronto Canada. He goes by the name of Sammy Snapshot, and his website is http://www.sammysnapshot.ca

I hope I win that kick ass calendar ;)

It would have to be a toss up between Philippe Halsman's photo of Marilyn Monroe lifting weights: http://itty.ca?h=Monroe

    Or Katherine Hepburn: http://itty.ca?h=Hepburn
(with some interesting possible trans-info to boot)

Love your blog, by the way :-)

He’s not quite a pin-up artist, but I absolutely love Namio Harukawa’s erotic drawings, which have a definite pin-up quality to them. I really admire the way that he portrays femme doms in a way that causes them to come across as exquisitely beautiful, glamorous, and dignified while engaging in activities that are definitely taboo. Such a far cry from the objectified-slut persona that most pop-culture depictions of femme-doms convey.

There's one of Annie Sprinkle that I can't find online, but it's her in a corset with her nipples coming out the top and hold her labia apart. I love it because I have a large photo of it that she signed for me and colored with highlighter, so her nipples and vagina are neon pink and her signature is multi colored neon. It makes me happy. :)

  6. gotta love kat von d! she's not exactly a pin up model, but she could be. not to mention her tattoos are insanely sexy!

Marilyn Monroe is my favorite pin-up, but my favorite picture of her is one of her working out. Something about a such a feminine icon bench-pressing is very hot:

These days my favorite pin-ups/ burlesque dancers is this great group i recently saw perform. Its the Pretty things peepshow http://prettythingsproductions.com/ They are 3 wonderful ladies who not only dance but preform sideshow acts along with a handsomely dressed fellow named Donny Vomit ( he has an amazing mustache) I think my favorite of the ladies is Go-Go Amy, her vintage style and tattooed body makes me really pay attention while she dances, not that my eyes arent fixed on her already. Also Go-Go Amy and another dancer Bettina May teach a pin-up class to teach the fine art of pin-up. They are really cool women and i just love them.

  10. As a young man with an artistic flair and easy access to the areas oldest headshop, I found myself a kindred spirit early on with the one, the only, COOP.

His work appeals so much to me…curvaceous women, robots, cars. It was everything my wild young mind could have ever wanted.

I chose this one because I love the color, the smile, and the habit.

  11. Ohmygod this is brilliant. And that April shot of you is GORGEOUS. Wish I'd seen this a couple days ago so I could have ITEM'd it. Nice!

Way too many great links (can I second Marilyn weight-lifting?!) My favorite pin-ups right now are all illustrations: http://persinnamon.com (the ukulele case girl / derby girl = love.)

While I love all of the older pin-up pictures and idolize pioneers of pin-up, it's great to have a modern beauty with timeless fashion in Dita Von Teese! I enjoy following her on Twitter and drooling over the shoes, pictures and glamor she has in her Twitpic stream http://twitpic.com/photos/DitaVonTeese
