We’ve replaced your usual smut with political activism … let’s watch

“What’s going on here?!” You may be asking yourself. “What happened to my usual Sugarbutch Chronicles, with queer eye candy and smut and gender theory?”

Through October 28, it’s the 8 Against 8 campaign, where 8 lesbian bloggers are raising $8,000 over 8 days to defeat Proposition 8 in California. Along with Grace & Grace, Lori Hahn, Kelly at TLL, Dorothy Surrenders, Pam’s House Blend, Riese, Renee at Lesbiatopia, we are writing to raising awareness about the homophobic, bigoted political initiatives that are stripping away equal rights from queers.

It’s not just Proposition 8 in California, it’s also No on amendment 2 in Florida, No on Proposition 102 in Arizona , No on Question 1 in Connecticut, and No on Act 1 in Arkansas. Educate yourself. Talk to your friends & family. Send emails. DO SOMETHING.

The 8 Against 8 roundup on Sugarbutch:

Day 3, Wednesday:

  • Julie & Nikola, and a video for Julie’s hilarious comedy-song Commitment Ceremony

We have currently raised: $6,314 of $8,000 as of 10:30am on Wednesday, 22 October! We have reached our goal! Late on Wednesday, October 22, our donations tipped over $8,000. BUT the polls are still saying that we are not guaranteed a win against Proposition 8. Keep donating! Let’s see how far we can go! As of Monday, 27 October, we’ve raised over $13,000!

I’m pretty excited about the prospect of Prop 8 being rejected, and I’m sure it’s not possible without the efforts of people (and bloggers such as yourselves) reminding everyone that this is not a done deal, and that there are a lot of people out there who a) live in a tunnel and don’t see the rest of the world outside themselves, b) assume that everyone else will vote, so they don’t have to, or c) are simply clueless because they avoid politics like the plague.

Thank you so much for the time energy (what POSITIVE energy!!) you all have put towards your brilliant campaign. I love that groups of people become large groups of people and as long as we use them positively, our voices can and will be heard and acted upon.

You and all your readers rock.

    YAY!

(That was me, shouting encouragement in your general direction.)

I don't know if you remember me, I wrote you asking about tuxes in NYC and you kindly posted on your blog asking for info from your readers. Thanks again for that and for the emails (and by the way, I was able to find a pretty snazzy suit that I actually like better than the tux idea at Nordstrom's).

As of right now, my lady and I are actually in CA and getting married on November 1st, 3 days before the election. Scary but true story, there is a woman driving around our town with no less than 50 "Yes on Prop 8" stickers all over her car. I mean ALL over, windows, doors, hood, everywhere. People like that make me really appreciate the fact that the fight is not over and we need all the help we can get. Kudos to you and the other bloggers involved in raising money!

Oh and I'll send you pictures from our big gay wedding :)

  4. Great work!

I would love to donate a DVD of "The Best of GoodDykePorn.com" to give for a high donation or however you'd like to use it to raise money.

    love,

    Bren

Hi Sinclair, I see you’re posting pictures of wedded LGBT folks in California! My wife and I got married the very first day it was possible, June 16th. How would I submit pictures for you to post?

  6. Jessie says:

…nevermind, I see you already answered that above!

Hooray! You and the other 7 have brought a lot of attention to prop 8 and have inspired some awesome results. And thanks for mentioning prop 102 in AZ, too!
